Want a car with a manual transmission? Here's what's available in the U.S. in 2023.

Truth be told, manual-transmission cars are a rare breed these days. Given that there's no substitute for that connected feeling when rowing through the gears yourself, it's worth seeking out what's still available with a manual gearbox on the U.S. market today.

Fortunately, they’re not dead yet. So, look no further if you’re wondering which vehicles still come with a stick shift and three pedals.

While your average commuter will hardly appreciate it, there are still purists that prefer the stick shift for its simplicity and engagement. Here is a complete list of all the model year 2023 manual-transmission cars, trucks, and SUVs.

The newest generation of the M2 built on the G87 chassis is once again intended to provide maximum performance. It has a more distinctive appearance, a specially tuned chassis, and a twin-turbocharged inline-six tuned to 453 horsepower. Staying true to its performance values, the 2023 M2 has rear-wheel drive and a standard six-speed manual gearbox.

Say what you will about the front kidney grills on the BMW M3, there's no denying that the standard six-speed manual transmission is made for driving enthusiasts. That said, BMW configures the M3 sedan with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged S58 inline-six engine producing 473 horsepower in base form or 503 ponies in the Competition model.

It's the base M3 sedan that gets a manual transmission, as the overachieving M3 Competition only comes standard with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic. The rear-wheel-drive sedan boasts a 3.0L twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, adaptive dampers, and a sports suspension tuned magnificently.

In previous years, BMW offered more options for manual transmissions in its 4 Series lineup. Unfortunately, the G82 platform has reduced offerings with a stick shift. But not all is lost.

One model retaining the manual option is the 2023 M4 coupe, which can be ordered with a six-speed. Similar to the M3, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the third pedal experience every time you get behind the wheel of this fantastic feat of German engineering.

The CT4-V is a striking sports sedan that can be outfitted with a six-speed manual. Under its hood, the rear-wheel-drive sedan is powered by a 3.6L turbocharged V6 that makes 472 horsepower.

Cadillac, in an interesting appeal to manual enthusiasts, markets the CT4-V Blackwing as a sedan that is engineered to perform both on the track and as a daily driver — and look good doing it. It's a surprising choice, but it might be one of the best 2023 manual-transmission cars on the market.

Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge, confirmed that the 2023 model year will be the final one for the current Dodge Charger and Challenger models. The Challenger is Dodge's answer to the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.

Fulfilling the urge to keep the right hand busy is a manual transmission available with the powerful coupe's 375-horsepower R/T, 485-horsepower R/T Scat Pack, and tire-melting 717-horsepower SRT Hellcat models.

That Hellcat will get you to 60 mph in the 3-second range and to 100 mph in just over 7 seconds — but only on a racetrack, of course. We hear they can do some sweet burnouts, too. None of the AWD models can be had with the stick shift.

Honda's Civic has been sold in the U.S. since 1973, and it's always had a manual option. That doesn't change some 49 years later. And luckily for 2023, you can opt for either a manual in the Civic Si or the Civic Hatchback.

To get the Civic hatchback with a stick shift, you’ll have to select the Sport or Sport Touring trim level. If a proper trunk is your preference, both Si and Si HPT outfit the sedan with a light-shifting, rev-matching six-speed manual.

The Veloster was eliminated from Hyundai's 2023 lineup for the North American market to make room for its electric-powered cars and crossovers. This leaves the 2023 Hyundai Elantra N sedan as the lone wolf with a third pedal. The N Line trim package comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission that has rev-matching.

The 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 276 horsepower and has plenty of get-up-and-go. Plus, with a spacious interior, a few sport upgrades, and N Drive Mode (with launch control), the Elantra N delivers on all fronts.

Jeep's Wrangler is a legend among 4WD vehicles. Loved by off-roaders around the globe, it's available with a six-speed manual transmission when mated to the 285-horsepower 3.6L V6 engine.

Literally, the last Kia sedan for the U.S. market that can be manually shifted is the compact Forte. You’ll need to upgrade to the GT Manual package with a six-speed manual transmission to get the ol’ stick shift added on.

The GT Manual does justice with a 1.6L turbocharged engine sending 201 horsepower to the front wheels. It also comes with larger front disc brakes and a free-flowing exhaust system, making this a spunky sedan.

The Lotus Emira is the last of the fully petrol-powered Lotus vehicles and a follow-up to the impressive Evora GT. It's a beautiful mid-engine British sports car available with a manual. A 400-horsepower supercharged V6 delivers power to the rear wheels via an available manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

Drawing inspiration from the Evija hypercar, it also has a lightweight composite body and a host of other goodies to make it a bantamweight street fighter, typical of the Lotus tradition.

A modern classic, the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata is a living legend among sports cars. While not the fastest, this convertible is one of the most fun cars available, especially for the money.

Like any classic sports car, a manual gearbox is standard fare. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a sewing-machine-smooth 2.0L engine cranking out 181 horsepower. The MX-5 is available with a manually folding soft top or a power-retractable hardtop.

Not every MINI model is offered with a manual, but you do have two stick shift options in the 2023 lineup. The MINI Cooper Hardtop and Convertible both come with a standard six-speed manual.

For the hardtop, you can choose from the Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works models, which range from 134 up to 228 ponies for the JCW package.

Nissan's Z cars have a long history of performance — over 50 years, to be exact. They’ve always been available with a manual transmission as well.

This tradition continues with the Nissan Z. From the sleek styling to the rumored 0-60 mph time, this sports car is slated to come with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine mated to that coveted six-speed manual transmission.

The Corolla Hatchback made a triumphant return to the U.S. market in 2019 and returns as a refreshed model in 2023. The attractive-looking five-door Corolla has the same 169-horsepower engine as the sedan, but can be had with a six-speed manual on the SE as well as the racier XSE models.

The Hatchback puts to rest any inkling of a vanilla-looking past. The Corolla Hatchbacks, especially in the XSE trim, look athletic and modern.

Thank the forces and passionate souls that brought together BMW and Toyota to bring us the fifth-generation Supra after a long hiatus. Most everything underneath the skin comes from the German automaker's Z4, but the bodywork is thoroughly Japanese and incorporates small hints of Toyota's sports car heritage.

Its revival in 2019 came with two engine options — a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four and a turbocharged 3.0L inline-six.

An eight-speed automatic was the only transmission until now. Starting from Q4 of 2022, the 2023 Supra gets a six-speed manual gearbox in the GR Supra 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and limited-edition A91-MT models. Toyota tells us that the new six-speed manual was developed specifically for the Supra's 3.0L, straight-six engine.

If you like to row your gears in the Toyota Tacoma, you’ll have to opt for the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Pro models. They can have a six-speed manual behind the 278-horsepower 3.5L V6 engine. All will feature 4WD with a high/low range transfer case to get you through snow, sand, mud, or rocks.

For the eighth-generation Golf, VW continues to offer its mainstay hatchback with a six-speed manual transmission. The fun-to-drive 2023 Golf GTI, one of the best hot hatchbacks out there, makes 241 horsepower. All Golf versions are known for their European feel and German engineering.

From a performance standpoint, the 315-horsepower Mk8 Golf R certainly excites, especially with the stick shift at hand. This hot hatch knows how to dance nimbly around the corners and is a pure joy to drive.

A six-speed is still available and costs $800 less than the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. However, all is forgiven once you’re out of the driveway.
