Meals on wheels: More than 70 food trucks roll into Burswood Park for WA Day Festival

Sep 02, 2023Sep 02, 2023

A veritable convoy of food trucks will roll into Burswood Park for WA Day Festival on June 4 and 5.

The annual WA Day long weekend festival will feature more than 70 vendors serving up meals on wheels spanning everything from seafood to hot donuts, vegan tucker to bubble tea, and smoky barbecue to French crepes.

Here are a handful of your food options as you celebrate the great State of WA.

Temptations from the Sea

This award-winning seafood van is literally your favourite fish n’ chip shop on wheels. Temptations include traditional fish and chips to grilled fish, fish burgers, sushi, salads, fresh sandwiches and pita wraps.

While the fisherman's basket — a large serve of crumbed and battered fish, prawns, squid with a big pile of chips — is the most popular dish, this food truck is also packed to the gills with old school winners such as dims sims and Chiko rolls.

Jumplings

So, what's the gyoza here? Sorry. Gyoza are Japanese pan-fried dumplings and Jumplings make some of the best in town. Chicken, seafood and vegetarian dumplings are staples of the menu, but there are also a few surprises.

To really kick those tummy rumbles, try a Jumplings bowl full of gyozas, udon noodles, cabbage and coriander topped with homemade chilli and truffled ponzu sauces. Nodogoshi!

Smokr

It wouldn't be a long weekend party without some barbecue, and we mean proper Texas-style smoked meats from beef brisket to pulled pork and beef short ribs slathered in house-made hot sauces and served with all the traditional sides.

We recommend Smokr's bestselling smoked beef brisket — nice crispy, blackened bark on the outside, a pink smoke ring and, most importantly, tender meat in the middle. Yeehaw!

Bunga Raya Satay Van

Named after Malaysia's national flower, the hibiscus, the Bunga Raya team have wowed Perth with authentic Malay Hala street food for close to 30 years. Expect the classics: beef and chicken satay sticks, dim sum, noddles and murtabak (delicious omelette pancake).

Tokyo Crepes

France meets Japan with these crunchy, munchy, sweet and moreish dessert crepes made using top WA ingredients. Tokyo Crepes’ most popular dish is the house-made matcha green tree gelato crepes, but there's also the mango passion or vanilla biscoff dessert crepes among this food van's almost endless options.

The Canuck Truck

Why should the Yanks have all the fun? Perth's best Canadian food truck rolls into Burswood Park loaded with the ultimate comfort food — poutine!

Hot chips, squeaky cheese curds, hot gravy and a sprinkle of fresh spring onion — the Canuck delicacy is one to warm the soul, if not your diet.

The Canuck Truck offers variations on poutine, including Three Little Pigs (chips, pulled pork, bacon pieces, smoked ham and gravy) and Buffalo Chook (chips, shredded chicken, hot sauce and goat's cheese). You can mess with the classics!

An's Big Fairy Floss

One for the kids, or the young at heart with a massive sweet tooth. Pick your favourite cute character from An's list and watch it come to life in fairy floss form — then eat it!
